On Thursday, March 31, 2011, PMI-AGC Kuwait arranged a well-attended technical presentation titled “Project Management as a core competency for Strategic Success - Enter the SXO”.
The presentation was delivered by Mr. Chris Bragg, PMP who is the Managing Director of TenStep ME. He has 30 years of business and project management experience, covering all aspects of IT as well as insurance, education, development, mining and consulting. He has extensive experience as an instructor in project management and technical fields, has lectured in Technology Management at the Arabian Gulf University, and has been an invited speaker at several regional conferences. Mr. Bragg is a past Regional General Manager for one of the biggest international software companies, and has substantial experience in change and performance management, outsourcing services, training, data analysis and design, and consulting services.
The presentation covered a high level overview of a simple, practical structure, the SXO, which was developed by experts working to help organizations meet real practical needs. While it is honed by practical considerations, it has a solid base in 'state of the art' best practices. A reference was made to a recent case study to illustrate the concept. It was emphasized that the SXO integrates and supports the processes used to drive:
-
Strategic Performance Management and Strategy Formulation
-
Project Portfolio Management and Project Management processes
-
Strategic Delivery and Capability Management processes
Mr. Bragg explained that successful strategy execution (as in project management) is essential to maximize communication, consensus and commitment at all levels. He further reinforced the notion that 'we can't manage what we can't measure'.
The presentation was followed by a question and answer session during which attendees strengthened their understanding of project management’s role in strategic success of organizations. At the end of the presentation Mr. Ahmed Samir thanked the speaker and presented a memento on behalf of PMI-AGC. He thanked attendees for their interest in the topic and for making the event a success with their active participation. Volunteers who helped with the arrangements of the event were also applauded.
It is worth noting that PMI-AGC Kuwait arranges monthly events for the benefit of its members and project management community.
